From the serene town of Auburndale, Massachusetts, Rob Cunningham has carved a path as a talented singer-songwriter and acoustic guitar player whose music resonates with heartfelt authenticity and timeless artistry. His journey began in the vibrant music scene of his youth, where he formed the power pop garage band Victims of Circumstance with his brother Steve and friend Paul Conrad. Their local performances and the release of a four-song EP laid the foundation for Rob’s lifelong passion for music.

While pursuing a career as a chef and raising a family, Rob never let his musical ambitions slip away. Writing songs remained a constant in his life, and as his family grew, so did his opportunities to perform. As a member of the local cover band Top Dog, Rob honed his stage presence and refined his musical skills, connecting with audiences and building a loyal following.

Over the past fifteen years, Rob has embraced the role of both artist and producer, recording and producing four solo albums under the name Big Ugly Dog. These albums—Off The LeashNew TricksStories, and There’s Life In The Old Dog Yet—were created in his home studio and showcase Rob’s unique sound. Drawing from the rich traditions of classic folk and country music, his style echoes the influence of artists like Gordon Lightfoot, Steve Earle, and Guy Clark. Yet, Rob also incorporates elements of pop from legends like The Beatles and Nick Lowe, creating a sound that’s both familiar and fresh. His thoughtful lyrics and well-crafted melodies have earned him a dedicated local fan base and strong independent sales.

A firm believer in the power of music to unite people and enrich their lives, Rob has recently fulfilled a lifelong dream of recording a studio album with live musicians. The EP I Can Tell, produced by EJ Ouellette and featuring the legendary drummer Dave Mattacks, is a testament to his artistic evolution. Available on all major streaming platforms and iTunes, I Can Tell represents the next chapter in Rob’s musical journey, marking a new level of depth and collaboration in his work.
